Good one Todd, I reckon that would probably be the first excuse they come up with. We pay our guys above award rates. We know that they can do their job within approx. 30 hours per week but we pay them for 38 hours. We figure this way they appreciate their job and do it properly. It’s amazing though how sometimes when things go wrong and they have a few longer days here and there that they still find time to complain.

“I don’t really care exactly how someone goes about doing their job, as long as they produce good results.”

That should be the attitude of everybody in a leadership position. Sometimes if we “micro manage” people to much they only provide average (if we are lucky) results because this attitude of “micro managing” prevents them of thinking out of the box and getting actually better results then when everything goes by the book. But I also like: “But don’t EVER, EVER, EVER tell me “I didn’t have enough time”.” Whenever I had people “under me” (what a horrible expression!) I could cope with nearly everything, less lies and cheap excuses. Just my two Czech koruna and Happy and Prosperous New Year to you and your readers, SY

Nice post Todd. Truthfully, if you brought your camera to my office for a snapshot, you’d find me checking out the sports pages and yacking on the phone with friends more often than not. Hey, they pay me well to work 20 hours per week…I’ll take it :) . Enjoyed the post.
