With my upcoming Deployment again this fall, I was a little worried about how I'm going to keep up with things like blogs, twitter and facebook while I'm out of the country.
Fortunately, I happened to notice a few people using a site/service called posterous.
Basically, I can make posts to my blog, facebook, twitter, and many other services simply be sending an email. This is in addition to the new blog at http://toddmorris.posterous.com which records everything in one place.
This should be perfect for when I'm down range. It's not out of the question that I may very well be able to access my wordpress blog, and the various social media sites while I'm deployed. However, there's also a chance that those sites could be blocked. On the other hand, it's almost a sure thing that I'll have access to at least one of my email accounts.
I'm heading for Florida next week for 5 weeks of field training. The only internet access I may have is via my t-mobile sidekick. It should be a good opportunity to test out how well blogging via email and text message works for me.
Do any of you have a posterous blog yet? If so, do you have any advice or tips for me?
Thanks in advance,
Todd

That's really interesting news. I am curious how its work in practice…
You also need to go and read the rules about blogging from deployment. Increased strictness over the last few years including a requirement to notify the chain of command and getting permission to blog. Penalties are really nasty for non-compliance. You also have to do this from your own computer and not any government one.
It is all services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard). So far the only uniformed services that don't seem to care are NOA and PHS; which says it all right there. Some are stricter than others with the rules applying to civilians and contractors.
Stay safe and return home in health.
hey todd nice dude you have done an excellent job i liked it!great!
Posterous is on my list – went there once, tried it, like it, forgot about it LOL. It seems like a good idea for remote blogging though!
