Within the perimeter of our base lies the ruins of one of the oldest cities in the world, and one of the best preserved Ziggurats in Iraq and Iran; The Great Ziggurat of Ur. The chaplains here on post organize occasional tours. We got to climb up on the Ziggurat, take some pictures, and even got a professional guided tour of the ruins where it is said the biblical figure Abraham lived.
I took quite a few pictures, but the one above is my favorite.
I would write more, but to be perfectly honest, if you click on the links in the paragraph above, you can easily explore this subject much more in depth than anything I would be capable of writing.
