Why encouraging comments matters to new bloggers

Dec 07

Hey, finally a subject that I can write about with a bit of authority … since I myself am a relatively new blogger.

I’ll admit, I didn’t come up with this topic all on my own. Earlier today, I was reading an article where Skellie said “If you don’t have an authority-level subscriber count, your comments will need to tell the story you want them to.”

This makes perfect sense to me. And subconsciously, it’s actually something I was already doing … over the past couple of weeks I’ve installed several plugins, with the explicit intent of encouraging more reader participation. I really do want to know what you think.

Here’s why …

Since my chosen topic is relatively broad, when it comes to many specific subjects,
You Guys (and Girls) are Smarter than I am!

… I’d be pretty silly not to try to leverage that.
;-)

Not only that, but I find it much easier to write when it feels like
the start of a Conversation, rather than the beginning of a Lecture

I’ve always been a fan of Synergy.

Obviously, I hope that people will be interested in what I have to say.

But …

I know for a fact, that people are much more likely to be interested in what WE (collectively) have to say.

Quality is Quality … regardless of the source.

… and ultimately, quality is why people visit (and revisit) blogs in the first place.

So, in case I haven’t told you already … THANK YOU for reading, and THANK YOU for sharing.

lol, and now of course it’s your turn …

Do you think comments are important for a successful blog?

Why or Why not?

Keep havin FuN!

  1. I think comments are extremely important. My son & daughter have started blogging. I have told them both that they need to comment more.

I am simply amazed by the viralness of this whole thing. When I discovered the beginning of the commenting tour de force I had no idea it would get this big.

Later on today I’ll be posting a follow-up to the phenomenon that is Idetrorce. (Hehe no I am not him or her)
